This afternoon, Mayor Ducheneaux presented a proclamation declaring October 15th as White Cane Safety Day in Snyder. The proclamation was given to fourth-grade student Kerstin Culwell at the beginning of the City Council meeting.

Kerstin, her family, and her teachers are helping bring awareness to accessibility and visual impairment. Their efforts remind us that inclusion and understanding matter every day, not just on special occasions. For individuals who are blind or visually impaired, tools like the white cane represent independence, safety, and confidence as they navigate their world. Recognizing this helps build a community where everyone is empowered.

We invite everyone to join us for the White Cane Celebration Walk on Wednesday, October 15th at 2:00 p.m. at Snyder Intermediate School. Wear red, black, and white, the colors of the white cane, and help celebrate awareness, accessibility, and the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired.

๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ“ฃ Mini Cheer Camp Families! ๐Ÿ“ฃ๐Ÿ–ค

If your child participated in Mini Cheer Camp this summer, here are the details of the upcoming performance.

Because halftime is only 15 minutes and both the visitor and home bands will be playing, our Mini Cheer Camp performance will be during pre-game activities!

โœจ Hereโ€™s what you need to know:
Mini cheer campers will wear their Mini Cheer Camp shirt for the performance.
Please have your child behind the bleachers, under the student section at 6:10 PM to line up.

We will perform at 6:30 PM, and itโ€™s going to be amazing! ๐Ÿ’ซ
After the performance, you will retrieve your child at the gate closest to the concession stand once we exit the field.

We will have a rehearsal on Thursday, September 4th, from 6 pm to 7 pm at the stadium. If you didn't pick up your โ€‹shirt at camp, we will have it for you at the rehearsal.

We canโ€™t wait to see our mini cheerleaders shine on the field! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ–ค

โœจ A Peek into Snyder ISD: Celebrating Kindness and Connection in Ms. Bloyd's 4th Grade Classes!

Ms. Bloyd, a fourth-grade teacher at Snyder Intermediate School, brings her passion for social-emotional learning and kindness into the classroom every day. As a licensed master social worker and educator, she launched the 4th Grade Kindness Initiative to encourage students to recognize positive behaviors in their peers instead of focusing only on negative ones.

Here's how it works: students and staff nominate classmates exhibiting acts of kindness. Each week, Ms. Bloyd draws one student's name from each class, and if they've maintained good behavior, they receive a Kindness Award certificate and a coupon from the Kindness Book (e.g., a movie during lunch, a hat pass, or sitting with a friend). The best part? The person who nominated them receives a coupon too! Each nomination is proudly displayed on the school's Wall of Kindness, spreading positivity throughout the halls.

This initiative originally started in Ms. Bloydโ€™s classroom and quickly expanded to include the entire 4th gradeโ€”and recently, the first 5th grader was honored as well! Pictured are Dakota Craig (one of last weekโ€™s Kindness Award winners) and Ariah Mayes, who nominated her.

Another highlight of Ms. Bloydโ€™s classroom is the Lunch Bunch, a special weekly gathering where four to six students join her for lunch and treats. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to build stronger connections by interacting with classmates they might not usually spend time with. Most importantly, it gives Ms. Bloyd a chance to learn more about her students, their lives, and their families.

Thank you, Ms. Bloyd, for fostering a culture of kindness and community at Snyder Intermediate School!

Snyder ISD is pleased to announce they have been awarded The Mentor Program Allotment (MPA). This allotment will allow the district to further develop and strengthen its beginning teacher mentoring program, ultimately benefiting students through increased teacher retention and effectiveness. We want to thank Kathy Scott, Director of Student Services, for her diligent work on this grant submission. The MPA is a state initiative designed to help districts build or sustain mentoring programs for new teachers. These programs are grounded in research-based best practices and focus on improving student outcomes by supporting and retaining high-quality educators. Districts participating in the MPA commit to meeting rigorous requirements for mentors, district leaders, and campus leaders involved in the program. The MPA funds can be used for mentor stipends, release time for mentors and mentees, and high-quality mentor training. Snyder ISD recognizes that providing comprehensive support and training for new teachers is a top priority. This MPA award will significantly enhance the district's ability to achieve this goal. The funding will allow Snyder ISD to provide its beginning teachers with the training and resources they need to thrive in the classroom and contribute to student success. The district is committed to fostering a supportive environment where new teachers can grow professionally and develop their skills, ensuring the best possible education for Snyder ISD students. #snyderisd #snydertigers
